LOMAA is pleased to host Leslie Supnet as the eighth participant in its Visiting Artist Program. During her stay Supnet, an emerging Winnipeg-born and Toronto-based animator and filmmaker, will be facilitating a stop-motion animation workshop. This workshop will be presented in partnership with UnLondon and hosted at 121 Studios. Additionally, Supnet will be presenting a screening of her recent animation and film works.

This workshop will cover basic under-the-camera 2D stop motion animation techniques using paper-cut out puppets. Puppets will be hand-drawn and hinged or made from found images from books and magazines, which will be animated using iStopmotion software and a DSLR camera. Examples of paper-cut out animation will be screened by Martha Colburn, Terry Gilliam and Leslie Supnet. All equipment and materials needed for this workshop will be provided onsite. Please bring a portable USB drive.

Leslie Supnet is a Toronto-based moving image artist, originally from Winnipeg, MB. Supnet utilizes animation, found images + sound, lo-fi and experimental practices to create documents of her personal vision. She is currently pursuing her MFA at York University, and teaches animation workshops with various artist-run centres.

Her work has screened at microcinemas, galleries and film festivals such as Oberhausen International Short Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Images Festival, Antimatter, Melbourne International Animation Festival and various others.


London Ontario Media Arts Association, established in 2012, is an emerging, enthusiastic and devoted non-profit artist-run collective that fosters collaboration, investigation and innovation by tapping into the talent and serving the needs of media artists in the London region. We help to support and program creative partnerships between filmmakers, photographers, sound artists, musicians, engineers, scientists amongst others. Our membership is open to the public to allow these types of partnerships to take shape and grow. We help to provide affordable solutions to creative ideas and projects through the sharing of information and resources. This is mainly accomplished through meetings and workshop events.
