Open Documentary – A Workshop With Noé Rodríguez

OPEN DOCUMENTARY: A Workshop With Noé Rodríguez – March 28
C$20.00 – C$60.00
OPEN DOCUMENTARY
In this lecture-based workshop, we will discuss a DIY (do-it-yourself) or DIWO (do-it-with-others) approach to independent filmmaking based on the exploration of the field as playground for the recordist. Through excerpts, personal field and set experiences and a brief introduction to the key concepts around the idea of documentary, we will focus on the act of capturing aural and visual elements. The main purpose of the workshop is to convey the balance between freedom in experimentation and respect for the medium. The instructor will outline independent workflows from concept to completion and cover how to choose tools, plan and budget a project, shoot and edit the image and sounds, as well as how to finish and deliver the final work.

Noé Rodríguez
Noé Rodríguez began his professional career in film and media more than 15 years ago. He actively participated in the Spanish film industry working in a broad range of departments and positions that allowed him to experience a wide variety of workflows from film to digital. In parallel, in 2004 he cofounded Epojé Films, an independent documentary production company in which his role as co-director allowed him to direct and produce award-winning pieces for the festival circuit as well as a TV broadcast documentary series. With the support of the Caixa-Canada Scholarship, he moved to Canada to study an MFA in Film Production at York University, Toronto, where he is now based and working as a Technical Coordinator at the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT). In addition to freelance work as a cinematographer and location sound recordist, he is currently exploring expanded cinema and performative elements to further experiment with cinematic work as an intersection between sound, image and audience reception.

LOMAA is honoured to be hosting this workshop as part of LIFT’s Touring Filmmaking Workshops with media arts centres throughout Ontario. The touring program is generously supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
